First Presbyterian Church welcomes new pastor, Sunday July 2

For Immediate Release - New Orleans, LA

The members of First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans will be celebrating more than Independence Day on the first Sunday in July. After nearly a year without full-time pastoral leadership, the church will welcome Rev. Kimberly Rodrique to the pulpit when she leads service on July 2nd at 11:00am.

Rev. Rodrigue is a native of New Orleans and was invited to serve as a transitional pastor for the progressive congregation by the Presbytery of South Louisiana. A graduate of Union Presbyterian Seminary, Rev. Rodrigue has served churches in Nashville, Tenn., Washington, D.C., and, Arlington, Va., as well as a hospital chaplain and with the Ghost Ranch Presbyterian Conference Center in New Mexico. Her initial term is for three years but could be extended.

First Presbyterian is the oldest Presbyterian church in New Orleans and the city’s second oldest protestant church (after Christ Church Episcopal). Members and friends will celebrate the church’s 200th anniversary next year. The church was originally founded on St. Charles Avenue, where Gallier Hall now sits, and moved to its North Claiborne Avenue location in 1938.

The church is the only full More Light congregation in Louisiana, meaning that the church welcomes the participation and leadership of all races, abilities, and sexual orientations. The church and its buildings are also home to the Metropolitan Community Church, the Love Center daycare, and other dance and social organizations.
