Sunday worship

We have a traditional Presbyterian worship service at 11:00 a.m. every Sunday. Services consist of song, prayer, praise, meditation, and sermon. For a good picture of our weekly service, open the bulletin on the church's home page.

Children are welcome to stay with their families in church if their families wish. Help yourself to one of the brightly colored bags with coloring materials as you enter the church. Children up to young elementary age are also welcome to spend all or part of church time in the education wing where we have supervised care. Just ask for directions.

After each service, everyone is invited to join in fellowship, with coffee and light refreshments, at the back of the sanctuary.

Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month, and is taken at the front of the church.

During the Lord's Prayer, we say "debts."

Our volunteer choir is always looking for additional voices. Please let us know if you are interested. Rehearsal before the worship service each Sunday is at 10:30, and we welcome people to participate, on an ocassional or regular basis.

Presbyterianism

Presbyterianism is a form of church government. As New Orleanians we belong to the Presbytery of South Louisiana and the Synod of the Sun, and receive institutional support from the local and national presbytery. In turn, we contribute to the missions of the Presbyterian church at home and abroad.

While valuing church structure, Presbyterians acknowledge the freedom of individual conscience as we all seek together to know and do the will of the Lord as we receive it through Scripture. Many of us in this congregation were raised in different denominations from Baptist to Catholic. We are united here in our worship and service.

Christian Education

Currently, we offer care for children up to young elementary school age during our church service with snacks, art, and playtime.

A Sunday school class for teenagers is offered during the church service following the anthem.

For adults, there is a Bible class before church at 10 a.m.

Visitors are welcome to participate in all activities.

New forms of ministry will be added as we continue to recover from the flood.

Outreach

Child Development Program
The church’s Child Development Program, established in 1975, currently serves more than sixty families. It provides a nurturing learning environment for children from fourteen months of age through Pre-K.

Church members are invited to participate in various school events, including fundraisers, and to visit and borrow from the children’s library.

The CDP was the church’s first rebuilding effort following Katrina. Thanks to the initiative and energy of the church, the school reopened in January 2006 despite severe damage, providing much needed quality childcare to returning families

Rebuilding Ministry
To continue its work in rebuilding the city, the church is housing mission groups from across the country and working along with them to rebuild houses so people con return to their homes. Visitors and church members are invited to join in the rebuilding effort.

Literacy Training
In spring 2007, several church members and others received training to become tutors in basic literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The church now offers tutoring to several ESOL students and is planning another session of training for new tutors in October 2007.

Fellowship

Church members and visitors are invited to join us in the fellowship hall for the Louisiana dinners we serve our visiting mission groups. Check the bulletin or call the church for the date of the next meal, usually a Sunday, as the schedule varies

The last Wednesday of each month, there is a Ladies' Night Out Dinner at a local restaurant.

Every Month or so, we get together as a community for an evening together, whether a game night or potluck, at one of the members’ houses.
